This week, we are obsessed with Hug.

For those of you that aren't familiar with Jez Alborough's sweet story, it's a simple book of few words about a baby chimp that sees lots of other animal pairs hugging and it makes him long for a hug from his mom.

We checked it out from the library along with a stack of other books and Eddy took to it right away. After reading it to him a couple of nights in a row, he started to express sympathy and voice the same emotions that I did as I read it, getting sad when Bobo was distraught and happy when Bobo finds his mom.

This became our favorite party trick and we would have our family members read Hug to him when they came over. He got better and better at expressing emotions each time we read it. Then he started anticipating what was coming on the next page, saying, "HUG!", "Bobo!" and "Mama!" at the right time.

{Crank the volume to hear the fake tears!}

It's a stretch but I'm gonna go ahead and say he's reading.

My sweet, smart boy with a big heart.

Obsessed. Both of us.

  1. The tears...even better than I imagined. Love this kiddo!

  2. Ohhhhhhh!!!!! I am going to have to hunt down that book. He's just such a cutie!
