Hey, baby.

This is our last official week of the second trimester. I can hardly believe it. I think I keep waiting for the weather to turn cooler to shift my mindset to fall. Then I know it will feel like our winter season is around the corner. Halloween decorations excite me more than ever now because once that comes, the other holidays will creep up quickly.

You are moving and grooving and I love it. It makes me laugh every time I can see your sweet little feet making my skin jump up and down. I was sitting by a student at school earlier this week and I felt you practicing your bicycle kicks. I said, "Watch, sweetie!" His eyes went to your sweet spot on my belly and he got a big, goofy grin. "Cool, huh?" Speechless, he nodded with eyes as big as saucers. You are a miracle and an amazing science experiment all in one.

Cookie and I are having so much fun dreaming up and planning your room. I know that it will be my favorite place in the house. We are so lucky to have Cookie in our corner for this. It's what she was born to do!

We are truly growing by leaps and bounds. Look at this week's picture!

It's Sunday. Say "thank you". (Birthday Edition)

The 30th birthday celebration continued into the weekend and it was perfect. We had all of the parents/grandparents in town. We had a great time with our family and friends at Peter Pan Putt-Putt. Even Lucy got to come! We went to Lockhart and ate barbecue to celebrate Cookie's birthday. We relaxed and enjoyed everyone's company. We are so thankful.

Say what?

Here are a few awesome things that various people have said to me this week:

- 4th grade student:

"Mrs. Case, I don't mean to be mean or anything but you're, like, skinny on the inside but your belly is really big."

Thanks?

- 2nd grade student:

"Does that baby in your stomach hurt you? 'Cause when I was in my mom's stomach, I was like, "Pow! Pow! Pow!" (he says while kicking and punching the air)

- And perhaps the most surprising statement was said by the baby daddy during my birthday dinner:

"We need to get crackin' on the baby's room!"

I can't believe that I wasn't the first one to say that.

Happy birthday to me!

What a big week this is. Today marks the last day of my twenties. Tomorrow is the big 3-0! Being with you is the best way I can imagine to start this new decade. While you are still in your 20s (in weeks), you also have a big milestone this week. Instead of being measured from "crown to rump" like you have been up to this point, you are now measured from head to toe and are an amazing 15 inches long! Grow baby grow.

We started the birthday celebration with our trip to California and had a blast. Before we left on Sunday morning, Papa and I hit the snooze and stayed in bed for a few extra minutes. Your kicks are getting more powerful by the day so he got to feel you better than ever. That makes us both so happy.

On Monday, Aunt Steez called and surprised us by saying that she was on her way to Austin. She is working here all week and will be around for my birthday party! Cookie, Grandpa Gus, BonBon, and Pops are coming in, too. We will be surrounded by so much love.

Our monthly checkup with the midwives was today. We are in tip-top shape and your heartbeat sounds as beautiful as ever. After our next appointment in October we start seeing Michele every 2 weeks and then at the end of November we start going once a week! I can't believe it.

Thank you for making this birthday so special. I can't wait to see what your papa has in store. He always pulls out all the stops.

Check out that belly popping out of the bottom of my shirt!

It's Sunday. Say "thank you". (California Edition)

We had an incredible long weekend in California. We had great laughs with Grandpa Danny, Pam, and Aunt Hanna. We met up with old friends. We dipped our toes - and surfed - in the ocean. We cheered the Longhorns to victory. We ate delicious food. We enjoyed perfect weather. We are so thankful.

Hey, Baby.

I'm not sure how this skin keeps stretching but it certainly does. Take up as much room as you need to, my love. I'll make it work.

This week, we went to prenatal yoga for the first time. It's kind of amazing to be in a roomful of women with different sized bellies. I came in feeling like we were totally enormous and soon realized that we have a lot of growing to do.

We started class by introducing ourselves and saying how we were feeling. I was so happy to be there with you so my answer was easy. I felt great. A woman a few mats down who was 38 weeks pregnant introduced herself and said that she was feeling relieved. She lives in a neighborhood where many homes burned down during the terrible wildfires we've had in the Austin area. She started crying, saying that she was worried that she wasn't going to have anywhere to take her baby home to. Hearing that certainly made me count my blessings. I am so thankful for our house, our family, and you.

You must have really loved yoga because you have been practicing many poses ever since. You are moving more than ever. I scratched my belly while sitting on the couch this weekend and you kicked the same spot immediately. I scratched again and you kicked again! I like that game.

Before I sign off for the night, I have a small confession. I bought my first junky, impulse, pregnant lady snack today. Grocery shopping for dinner while hungry is always dangerous but is double dangerous when pregnant. While standing in line, I caught a whiff of Cool Ranch Doritos and had to have them. I reached over the divider into the next line to grab a bag and then nearly crushed a small child to get a Sprite. I've been really good about eating healthy so I promise that this won't happen often. But if you're anything like me you loved it. I must say that it hit the spot.

We're off to see your Grandpa Danny and Aunt Hanna in sunny L.A. tomorrow! I can't wait.

Love ya.

It's Sunday. Say "thank you".

Aunt Sass snapped a photo of this fish last weekend on Town Lake trail. I saw it this morning when I was out with Papa and Lou and thought that since it's Sunday, this would be a great time for us to start saying "thank you" for some of the amazing blessings we have in our lives.

What our family is thankful for this week:
The United States of America
Family and Friends that love us so much that I don't think we'll ever run out
A growing, healthy belly
Delicious food, especially shrimp and breakfast tacos from TacoDeli
Lucy
A safe house
Health
Homemade chocolate chip cookies

Thank you, fish.

Hello, bellybutton.

I told our friend Nicole, who has a baby in her belly that is almost exactly the same age as you, about a month ago that my estimate for the bellybutton popping out was one month. I was off by a few days. Although it is not fully out yet, you can now see it through my shirt. I possibly had the world's deepest bellybutton so that is quite an impressive feet. Nice work!

Nicole also told me this week that she could see her belly move around so I decided to give that a try on Saturday. As I sat on the couch with my shirt pulled up I could see you dancing and flipping! So amazing.

A few pregnancy books have suggested that I start singing a song to you now so that when you come out I can sing the same song and you will recognize it. That's a lot of pressure for me. Should it be a traditional lullaby? A Beatles song? AC/DC? Well, you helped me narrow down my decision. We have heard Rod Stewart on the radio 4 times this week and every time we do you start dancing. I can't argue with that. So what'll it be? Maggie May? Hot Legs? Maybe Rhythm of my Heart is more appropriate.

I love you, honey. And so does your papa.

A Fine Tuesday

The mother of a former student says to me today, "Oooo Mrs. Case, you are looking finer by the day!"

Well, now doesn't that sound so much nicer than "bigger" or "wider"?

Thank you, ma'am, for making my long Tuesday a little bit better.

You, my baby, are "crown-to-rump" the size of an ear of corn this week!

Happy Birthday, Aunt Katie!

Aunt Katie turns 30 this week and one of the things she wanted to do for her birthday was compete in the Austin Triathlon with her friends. Your papa did the swim portion, Aunt Katie rode her bike, and Aunt Sass finished up with a run. Me, Uncle Cory, Lucy, and a few other friends held down the cheering leg. It was an early start and one of the most beautiful mornings we've had in Austin in a while. Turns out those 3 are an amazing team - but we all could've guessed that.

Papa looking like Loch Ness
Swim completed and in incredible time!
Lucy and her new friend Shiner spotted Papa

Sunday Stroll

Me and my favorite girl doing what we love to do.

Sweet Outfit!

I sent this photo out to a few of the near and dear last week as we were on our way out to a pool party. Turns out most people thought I was wearing some kind of awesome outfit. I love that our friends and family think I wear things like this. It is not an awesome outfit, it is my awesome bathing suit that I got at the beginning of the summer when I felt like a bloated chub.

Something amazing happened this weekend.

Your papa got to feel you for the first time! It was my first weekend after being back to work with students and I woke up just when the alarm would be going off on a work day. I couldn't fall back asleep so I decided to wait for you to start kicking. I felt the biggest kick I have felt yet so I rolled over, woke your papa up, and laid my belly on top of his hand. After about a minute of being still and quiet he felt you!

When you first started making your presence known to the world, about 50% of people would tell me that you're a girl and the other half would say you're a boy. As the weeks go on, and you grow and grow, more and more people are now saying that you're boy. Only you know the answer!

Everyday with you is exciting.

Love you.

Was it something I ate last week? Or are you just shifting around? We are definitely still growing but in new ways all the time.

We went to see Michele, the midwife, today and both of your grandmas - Cookie and Bon Bon - got to hear your sweet heartbeat. There is nothing like lying on that cozy bed, being doted on by women, and hearing your thump thump thump. It never gets old.

Yesterday was our first day back with students at school. My former students are so excited about you! And my new ones are wearing me out. I can't get off of the couch once I get home. The Grandmas and your papa have been taking good care of us, though. Cooking, cleaning, and loving Lucy.

Lucky number 22!

Love you.

Belly explosion!

I went back to work this week and in the four first days, people kept telling me that you already seem bigger. I didn't quite see what they meant until we took this week's picture. BOOM! In my short little torso, there seems to be only one way for you to grow - out.

I wish that we were still on summer vacation and could lie in front of the fan all day and rest. I'm sleeeepy. One good part about going back to work is that we are showered with love and sweet words all day.

Your Cookie comes in town this weekend and I can't wait for her to see you. She's going to squeal!

Love you.
